Hypnotherapy training in London and Sheffield - FAQs

Can anyone train to be a hypnotherapist?

The most important aspect of becoming a successful therapist is an ability to establish rapport easily with a variety of people. We will ask all prospective students to complete an application form and provide the names of two referees. We will personally interview all applicants and assess their suitability. At the present time, there are no specific criteria for using hypnosis, whether as a hypnotherapist or in conjunction with other caring professions

How do I know this is the best course for me?

There are many training courses out there and we are aware that most people considering enrolling on a hypnotherapy training course find the information provided confusing! The most important things to consider are:

  • How long is the training? This is quite important. The United Kingdom Confederation of Hypnotherapy organisations - UKCHO - recommends that students study for a minimum of 450 hours, at least 120 of which must be face-to-face. This means that your out-of-classroom study hours amount to 330 hours. Break this down into weeks and you have a manageable study time of just over 8 hours per week for, say, a nine-month course. Beware of courses who say they can accredited you in just a few months - this usually means that you have to study for 2 days a week, or you are short-changed
  • How experienced are the trainers? Alan Cooper & Carole Wan have over 20 years experience as hypnotherapists. Many of our trainers have been successful hypnotherapists for over ten years. All our trainers, in addition to being fully qualified in the disciplines we teach, have undergone additional extensive training by ourselves to master trainer level
  • Can you interview us? You are always welcome to visit us whilst training, to meet our students and to see how we work. We are also happy to put you in contact with previous students, whether recently qualified or, more importantly, those who trained with us some years ago - if your trainers are unwilling to do that, it usually means that they haven't trained many people!

Will I make a viable second income?

As experienced hypnotherapists, Alan & Carole are ideally suited to give you all the help and support necessary to become a success whether you're looking for a second income from part-time work or a full-time alternative income. Part of our course is spent on practice management. In addition, we offer supervision, supervised practice and a range of CPDs (continual professional development) to all students and qualified hypnotherapists, wherever they have trained. And, coming shortly, will be an opportunity to advertise on our web sites, www.lifesolutions.org.uk and www.ukhypnotherapy.org as accredited LifeSolutions therapists. The name, LifeSolutions, has been in existence for over 15 years and will therefore give you a head start when starting in business.

What's different about this course?

What is sometimes misunderstood about hypnotherapy is that hypnosis is the 'tool' that is used to enhance the therapy. A thorough knowledge of other areas is also important. This is why we cover:

  • Stress Management - as stress management consultants for over 20 years we believe that the psychological & physical effects of stress cannot be discounted.
  • Freud & Jung - their contribution to modern-day psychology & psychotherapy provides a fascinating insight into the mind.
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy - Although we cannot accredit you in CBT, we do teach you how to apply the principles of CBT to your work as a hypnotherapist. A further masterclass in CBT is available for qualified hypnotherapists and LifeSolutions students.
  • Rapport - an essential skill which forms an important part of the course.
  • Medical Hypnosis - we give you a thorough grounding in both the theory and practice of using hypnosis for IBS, Pain Relief, Childbirth, Skin Disorders, Headaches, Sexual Problems
  • Psychotherapy - we cover ALL major techniques, such as psychodynamic, rational-emotive, existentialist, cognitive and person-centred.
  • Some important topics that you probably find anywhere else unless you study them separately, including: EMDR, sports psychology, paediatrics, epigenetics, Psychoneuroimmunology, timeline techniques, meridian therapies, coaching, performance enhancement, PTSD & health promotion
